Burn

Burn

Ever since 7th grade, when I went fishing with Heather’s family and failed to correctly (read at all) apply sunscreen, I have had a horrible tendency to spend a day in the sun, followed by a night of hellish agony from the burns I end up with.

This morning, we set out to spend a day doing a public outreach event for work. I didn’t realize it at the time, but our “booth” was in the section that didn’t have any tent cover. So, I failed to apply, or even pack, my sunblock.

Fourteen hours later. I am super thankful that my personal “first in” bag contains burn cream with a small amount of Lidocane in it and the 600mg of IBUProfen I just popped.

Every time this happens, I wonder why I don’t remember. I know what happens to my body, I’ve had enough medical training to know I’m an idiot for it, and still I forget to take this one precaution. When you have a florescent tan, otherwise known as a dungeon prisoner pale complexion, you shouldn’t expect to spend the day in direct sunlight without some consequences.

My arms burn as much as the good spanking I probabbly need for continueing to do this.

(It happens about once a year, because that’s about the only time I spend more than 20 minutes in the sun. And, miraculously, when we spent a week at Disney World last year, I remembered to apply the horriblly greasey lotion.)

And now, if you’ll excuse me. I’m going to crawl into bed and fall asleep fantasizing that a pair of sexy women are massaging me with soothing lotions and doing other wonderful things to help me forget my pain. And, pray I feel better in the morning.
